Baylor University Province:

--Shorty’s Pizza Shack:
They serve up whole Pizza Pies, as well as pizza by the slice. Plenty of beer, couple of TVs for the Sports and some outdoor seating for the cooler weather.

Yelp

-- Cupp’s Drive In
A nice little family run American style diner down the road. They serve up simple, yet delicious, breakfast and lunch; Burgers, pancakes, and such.

Yelp

--Health Camp
Got to traverse the infamous Circle to get here, or at least part of it. Here you can get classic burgers, hot dogs and sides along with the largest variety of Shakes and Malts in Waco.

Facebook

--Viteks Bar-B-Que
Home to the famous Gut-Pack; Fritos, beans, choice of BBQ and sauce… this sucker will fill you up. With their new renovations, they can seat plenty and hold live music every once in a while.
Facebook
My Thoughts

--Georges
Pat Green wrote a song about this place, the Big O’s are known for miles around; they are never short on hot servers and bartenders. Along with decent food, a bar, patio and great atmosphere it’s a great place to hit up.
Facebook

--Penguin Pete’s
Ice cream, snow cones, and all kinds of sweet treats. This is the place to be when it is freaking hot outside, so 2/3 of the year. Best known for their super Ice-Cream Nachos!
Facebook
My Thoughts

--Food For Thought
Focus on slightly healthier foods; pizzas, sandwiches and other culinary delights. Right next to a pub as well!
Facebook

--Olive Branch & Express
Freshly made, and generally healthier menu items are found here; if you don’t count their sweet treats of cupcakes and cookies. They range from salads, sandwiches and homemade soups… serve breakfast as well. Upstairs, above Spice, is the Express which caters to a faster paced lunch.

--Bangkok Royal
A little on the pricier side, but well worth it. Bangkok is Waco’s only authentic Thai restaurant, and they serve up some delicious food.
Google

--Oso’s Froyo
Have yet to try this place out, but have heard only good things about them. Sounds like something good to get before shopping at Spice, maybe a little dessert after Olive Branch, or just whenever.
Facebook
--Bearn Nutrition
Need a pick me up after your work out? Perhaps some fuel before a work out or a heavy day? This place can set you up; with made to order health/protein shakes made with Herbalife products. Become a member and for a little over $6 (per visit) you’ll get an Aloe shot, Tea and Shake

McClean Community College Province:

--Dubl-R Burgers
When it comes to who has Waco’s best burgers, this place is right up there at the top. Fresh ground beef, great grill team, nice atmosphere, great sides… they are hard to beat.
Facebook
My Thoughts

--Kitok’s
Another of Waco’s best joints to snag a burger. They are best known for their Oriental Fries, which consist of thinly sliced onion, carrots, parsley, etc battered and deep-fried into a nest.
Facebook
My Thoughts

--D’s Mediterranean
Waco’s only Mediterranean joint; they serve everything hot and fresh to order. Whether you order an authentic Gyro, some lamb kebabs or their Fantastic fried chicken tenders (spicy). You won’t leave disappointed.

Texas State Technical College Province:

-- Burgers Galore
Been here only once so far. They are pretty much on TSTC campus and they have some great burgers, and if you like some challenges they have a few to try out.

Thoughts coming soon:

--Dave’s Burger Barn
Another great burger joint over by TSTC. They serve a tasty burger with home cut fries. They are getting a new, bigger, joint soon. They are known for their burger the Zipper Ripper; 5x5 burger with a pound of fries or tots.
Facebook
Thoughts coming soon:

--TSTC Culinary Luncheon
This is a great place to check out at least once; The TSTC culinary program has built a whole new dining room for service and a plenty of new kitchen space. The culinary students prepare fresh lunch Wednesdays and Fridays, with a menu that changes weekly. You get a 3 course meal for a great price and it helps out the program.
Thoughts coming soon:

--Heitmiller Steak House
One of the best places in town for a great Chicken Fried Steak or Chicken Fried Chicken. Heitmiller has been a apart of Waco for decades, and with their new facility right off I-35, it’s a great place for lunch or dinner.

Waco’s Neutral Provinces:

--Uncle Dan’s Bar-B-Que
You can find them catering for Baylor Frat and Soroitys quite often, even hitting up the Baylor tail gaiting some. They offer up double smoked brisket, rotisserie chicken, jalapeno sausage, and plenty more. Their newest addition is their mequiste grilled burgers! With all of that they serve up a wide range of sides! One of the best places in Waco for BBQ.  Did I mention they have draft Shiner and Bud!  And yes, my goofy ass works here watching the Burgers and briskets.
Facebook

--Captain Billy Whizzbang’s
The Captain and his Hot Air Balloon has been hanging around Waco for quite a while now serving up fresh and hot juicy burgers, even an awesome turkey burger. Recently they have experiment and implemented their newest burger, The WhizzPig! It is a half ground beef, half ground bacon burger patty. Try their Jalapeno Cheese bun!
Facebook
My Thoughts

--Lolita’s
Probably one of my favorite breakfast/lunch joints, and that probably goes for a big chunk of Waco. They serve up some of the best Breakfast burritos I have ever tried. Everything from the basic bacon, egg, and cheese to the fancy chorizo! One of the Baylor favorites is the Elephant, which is a giant sized burrito. Lolita’s also serves up menudo, carne guisda, etc, and plenty of delicious cookies n cake.
Facebook
My Thoughts

--Poppa Rollo’s Pizza:
Rollo’s has been a main stay of Wacoan’s for as long as I can remember and longer. With big ole pizzas, loaded to the gill with toppings. Big Screen TVs for sports and even old Classic shows like the Three Stooges. With a bar in the back, an arcade room, there is plenty of party space for big groups.
Facebook
Thoughts coming soon:
Yelp

--Baris Italian Bistro
Looking for an inexpensive, delicious, American Italian, dinner? Then look no further, that is Baris specialty. They serve Italian pizza cooked to order, several types of spaghetti and other pasta dishes. Its BYOB, always a plus. Most people can get out of there for about $10-15, including drink.

Yelp

--Café Cappuccino
I eat here once in a while, but I have some friends that eat here all of the time. They serve up a tasty “signature gourmet” breakfast with several kinds of pancakes to try out, waffles, bagels, and such. They also serve up specialty coffee, lattes, etc.
FaceBook

--What About Cupcakes
A little specialty shop, that I imagine you can guess, in homemade specialty Cup Cakes. They have a rotating menu, and their usual bits. They have 3 different sizes to choose from usually, but gotta get there soon cause they sell out often. I hear they are now adding cookies to their menu.

Time to sit back and relax with a nice cold one!

(non-smoking)

-- Nite Court Saloon   (B)
The newest bar to hit the Waco scene; used to be a little hole in the wall, but the new owners and management fixed it up quite nicely. They have a full bar, plenty of beer, even a few beers on tap. They added a back party room and a small patio. Thursdays they have karaoke, Wednesday is ladies night, and Monday they have beer specials.  Keep eyes open for live music starting this fall.
Facebook

-- Salty Dog
One of my more frequent bars to hit up for a nightly romp with friends.  They have 2 full bars on the inside, with live music once a week. On the outside they have a nice big patio with TVs, a full bar and Fans for the summer & fire place for the winter. Along with all the alcohol & fun, they also have a full menu with burgers, apps, salads, lunch specials, dinner specials and their well known “Dog Bowls.”
Facebook
My Thoughts    Part2

-- Dancing Bear Pub (B)
A nice sports pub right outside Baylor campus, backed right up to Food For Thought.  They specialize in beer that they bring in from all over the world. Last October they brought in a nice pumpkin spice beer. They have game night once a week, and have beer specials on big sport game nights.
Facebook
My Thoughts

(smoking)

-- Scruffy Murphy’s  (B)
A messy hole in the wall bar that looks like it’s been drunk since it opened. They have pool tables, outdoor seating and karaoke once a week. This is where most people go to finish off the evening of a GOOD night!
Facebook

-- Treff’s   (B)
“2 dollar you call it”, “weekly live music” and their famous “Piano man”… this makes Treffs one of wacos favorite little bars to hit up. But beware, it gets crowded and has some fun stairs to take up for the main bar.
Facebook

-- Crickets   (B)
A full kitchen, a huge main bar, mini bar in the back, along with plenty of pool tables, shuffle boards and foosball. Crickets is probably the most frequented bar in Waco. This also is a slight downside with long waits for service.
Facebook

--Georges Bar
As mentioned earlier, they are mainly a restaurant but have a heck of a bar section.

Many of these places have a long history with Waco and its population, while others are places with a reputation with the Schools and the Students, then some are still new and growing their roots. In the end, I hope you get to try them all and decide for yourself who deserves the greatest praise.
